Shrikrishna, Sparsh in title clash Score easy wins in sub-junior billiards Pune: Current national champion S Shrikrishna will be eyeing to defend his title, when he will face Mumbai cueist Sparsh Pherwani in the sub-junior billiards final on Saturday. In the ongoing Manisha National Billiards and Snooker Championship at PYC Hindu Gymkhana, top seed Shrikrishna was unstoppable and crushed his opponents’ en route to the final. In the pre-quarterfinals, he scored 105-point break while beating Rajasthan’s Owais Kaman 382-157 and then scored 95 and 99-point breaks during quarterfinal match against Rayaan Razmi of Maharashtra. The score read 406-167 in Shrikrishna’s favour. Maharashtra’s Kreishh Gurbaxani who had beaten K Vibhas of Telangana 289-133 in quarters, was expected to give a good fight to Shrikrishna. However, he proved no match as the Tamil Nadu player cruised into final with 406-203. His supremacy over the sport can be judged from the score as he registered 51, 56, 58, 67-point breaks and sealed the victory with 107-point break, with just three minutes remaining to the buzzer. At the adjacent table, Mumbai’s Pherwani scored 274-155 win over Digvijay Kadian of Haryana. The Mumbai lad was given walkover in the pre-quarterfinals and then he registered 199-113 win over Mehul Saini of Haryana. Shrikrishna and Sparsh have faced each other twice and in both encounters, the Tamil Nadu player has proved supreme. In the last tussle, he had beaten Sparsh in the national final and expected to repeat the performance. However, Srikrishna doesn’t believe in past records. “It all depends on how you play on that particular day,” he said. Meanwhile, in junior billiards, Maharashtra’s Taaha Khan, Akshay Gogri, Harmehr Mago and Gujarat’s Dinesh Bajaj have qualified for the main draw.
