Mumbai, February 24: Cricket Club of India member Neeta Sanghvi made a bright winning start defeating Umesh Marathe 3-1 (50-20, 30-54, 40-14, and 61-45) in a first round qualifying match of the CCI Snooker Classic 2025, an all-India tournament, which commenced at the CCI’s Wilson Jones billiards hall on Monday.

Meanwhile, Nikhil Saigal and Ibrahim Shaikh enjoyed smooth sailing as they recorded easy 3-0 victories from their respective opening encounters. Saigal produced a solid performance to tame Suyog Makadam posting a 62-9, 69-0 and 55-17 victory with a degree of comfort, while Shaikh got the better of Yash Rungta also winning in three straight frames 57-29, 67-47, and 53-29 to advance to the next round.

In an keenly contested encounter, Avinash Gaikwad played with plenty of determination as he rallied from the brink of defat to overcome Mithun Merchant 3-2 in one of the most exciting matches of the day. Gaikwad lost the opening two frames, but staged a remarkable fightback to pocket the last three frames to clinch a deserving 43-52, 39-48, 55-49, 72-43, and 51-11 victory and progress to the second round.

Ibrahim Shaikh beat Yash Rungta 3-0 (57-29, 67-47, 53-29);

Nikhil Saigal beat Suyog Makadam 3-0 (62-9, 69-0, 55-17);

Avinash Gaikwad beat Mithun Merchant 3-2 (43-52, 39-48, 55-49, 72-43, 51-11);

Kalpesh Mevada beat D. Pragnesh 3-1 (80-31, 47-67, 67-47, 62-30).
