Match Format & Rules

Note for Participants :-

  • The tournament shall be conducted in 3 different phases, i.e. Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3.
  • Phase 1 (4th March to 10th March)  -
    • This shall comprise of Category C players, each having a handicap of +16.
    • All matches in this phase shall be played on level (no handicaps).
    • The final 16 players from this phase shall qualify to get an entry into phase 2.
  • Phase 2 (11th March to 14th March)  -
    • This phase shall comprise of 48 Category B players each having a handicap of +8 and the 16 qualifiers from Category C,
    •  each having a handicap of +16.
    • In this phase whenever a Category C player plays against a Category B player, the former will get 8 points handicap.
    • The final 16 players from this group shall qualify to get an entry into Phase 3.
  • Phase 3 (15th March to 18th March)  -
    • This group shall comprise of 16 Category A players, each having a Scratch (zero) handicap, and the 16 players who qualified from Phase 2.
    • In this phase whenever a Category B player plays a Category A player, the former will get 8 points handicap, when Category C players plays
    • Category B player the former will get 8 points, and when Category C players plays Category A player the former will get 16 points.
  • All rounds upto pre-quarters will be best of 7 frames
  • Pre-quarters, Quarters and Semis will be best of 9 frames
  • Finals will be best of 11 frames.
     

MG 6-Red Open Handicap* Snooker Tournament

General Rules :

  • Unless otherwise notified, the tournament shall run in accordance with the prevailing rules and regulations of the Billiards & Snooker Federation of India (BSFI).
  • Once entries have been accepted, no replacement/substitution of players will be entertained.
  • However, the Tournament Committee at its discretion, reserves the right to accept such changes if necessary and with valid reasons, so long as no match has been played by the player/s.
  • All player must report atleast 15 minutes before the scheduled time of their matches.
  • All the matches will be played in accordance with the announced match schedule.
  • A grace period of 15 minutes will be allocated for each fixture.  In the event of being late or no show by a player by the end of the 15th minute one frame will be awarded to the opponent, after 20 minutes 2 frames down, after 25 minutes 3 frames down and after 30 minutes a walkover will be awarded in favour of the opponent present.
  • All the participants are requested to kindly pay the entry fees before their scheduled first match.
  • In the event of both players failing to turn up, the tie will be scratched.
  • Players shall be appropriately attired in shirts, trousers, smart casuals, collared T-shirts and covered formal or smart casual shoes during the competition.
  • Players shall not be allowed to play their matches in round-neck T-shirts, low waist or torn jeans, sandals and chappals.
  • In the absence of referee, all the decisions taken by the marker will be final and binding.
  • The tournament committee reserves the right to make changes to these rules and regulations and their decisions on all matters pertaining to this event shall be final.
  • Handicaps are subject to revision at the end of Phase 1 and Phase 2.

 

Playing Rules :

  • Foul-and-a-miss rule :-
    • maximum 2 re-spots, after that either
      •  ask the player to play from where the cue-ball has came  to rest
      •  play from where the cue-ball has come to rest
      •  take the hand ball and play from the D.
  • If a player needs more than 3 snookers during colour ball stage, then the frame will be awarded to the opponent
  • No Snooker can be give behind the nominated ball.

 

Game format

  • Knock-out from day one
  • Best of 7 frames  (upto pre-quarters)

 

Note on handicap

  • There will be 3 categories of handicap
  • Scr, +8 and +16
  • Categorized as per Mumbai Snooker League
  • Scr  will be for players having handicap +20 and below
  • +8 will be for players having handicap between  +25 to +40
  • +16 will be for players having handicap +45 and above
