Ankit, Darshan shine in MG ‘Hexagone’ win

Mumbai: Darshan Shah and Ankit Thakkar were the star performers for MG ‘Hexagone’ (Matunga Gymkhana) who defeated DPCG ‘Star Boys’ (Dadar Parsee Colony Gymkhana), by winning both the home and away encounters in contrasting fashion during the opening week of the Otters Club-Mumbai Snooker League (MSL) – 2017, conducted by the Billiards and Snooker Association of Maharashtra (BSAM).
In the home encounter, Matunga Gymkhana romped to a 3-0 victory. But they faced a bit of struggle in the away fixture as DPCG tried to exploit the home advantage. However, Darshan and Ankit ensured they won their matches to help Matunga Gym snatch a close 3-2 win and pick up a bonus point for having won both ties.
Darshan (+40) provided Matunga Gym with an ideal start at home when he defeated Jeshad Dumasia (+60) 107-87 before their doubles pair of Nishit Chandan and Shailesh Rao (+29) overcame Farhad Tamboly and Rayaan Bhagat (+36) 96-75 in the second frame to increase the lead to 2-0. Ankit (+40) finished off the win easy beating Rohan Randeria (+55) 111-75.
In the away match, Matunga Gym started badly as seasoned pro of Devendra Joshi and Ankit (+17)lost to the DPCG pairing of Farhad Pestonji and Karl Malad (+36) 34-64. Darshan levelled the scores when he beat Jeshad (+60) 137-74.
DPCG managed to regain the lead with Rohan Randeria (+55) comfortably defeating Nishit Chandan (+45) 101-56. However, Darshan and Ankit both came up with impressive performance to save the day for Matunga Gym. Darshan Shah tamed Fathad Pestonji (+60) 111-67 in the fourth frame and in the decider Ankit Thakkar (+40) produced a run of 33 to clinch a tight 130-129 win against bt Rohan Randeria (+55).
Meanwhile, Santacruz ‘Sunrisers’ pulled off stunning hard-fought 3-2, 3-2 win against PJHG ‘Sea Biscuits’ (Hindu Gymkhana) in a Group-M match.
